I made one voyage on the Walter Rice in 1966 to Longview, Washington and then to the Hawaiian Islands, and back to Corpus Christie. This was the cleanest ship I ever sailed aboard.

  2. I was on the SS Walter Rice from 1980 to scrapping in 1985. The SS Inger had been sold to the scrapyard, but she broke down so the sent the Walter Rice. A great ship and experience!

I sailed on the Walter Rice as a 3rd engineer in 1976. I then became a permanent employee with Reynolds Metals Marine and sailed on the sister ship, SS Inger. It was on the SS Inger that I logged all my sea time till 1st engineer. I gained much experience that became useful on other ships I sailed on.

  4. I sailed aboard the Walter Rice in 1968 from Galveston TX to Inchon Korea, and back. She was a splendid ship who was well run and clean as a whistle. It was my first ever voyage. I sailed on many other ships after that, but never another as special as she. I will never forget her

I sailed aboard her in 1979. Went to Haifa Israel. Storms for 21 days strait. Arrived bay of Haifa told be there 1 1/2 days. Three days later USS EISENHOWER and and battle ship parked along side. Jets took off around the clock. Israel and Egypt at war. Protecting Israel. 16 days later left and spent my 19th birthday in the middle of the sea. Perfect.

I sailed on the Walter Rice as 3rd Mate from 1978 thru 1984. Captains were Dan Hoobler and William Fleming. I have many good memories with great ship, officers and crew. I thank God that He kept me safe through those years.

Walter Rice was my first ship out of Mass Maritime in '78. Also sailed with Capt. Hoobler and Capt. Fleming.
